Da Huang (Radix Et Rhizoma Rhei) clears heat, quickens the blood, and dispels stasis. Ze Lan (Herba Lycopi Lucidi) also quickens the blood and dispels stasis. It is a very commonly used medicinal externally for the treatment of traumatic injuries. Di Long (Pheretima) clears heat and frees the flow of the network vessels. Therefore, it is commonly used for heat impediment conditions. Zhi Zi (Fructus Gardeniae) clears heat and stops bleeding, disperses swelling and dispels stasis due to traumatic injury.
Er Cha (Acacia Catechu) stops bleeding when applied externally. Ru Xiang (Olibanum) moves the Qi and quickens the blood, disperses swelling, relaxes the sinews, and stops pain. Bing Pian (Borneolum) clears heat and stops pain due to its extremely acrid, penetrating, aromatic, and moving nature.
